North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports during the month of May posted a total of 13,474 passengers boardings. Due to impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, these numbers amount to a statewide decline of 86% of the normal passenger volume that the airports were previously expected to see during this month.

On June 11th, 2020, the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission finalized approximately $9.7 million in state infrastructure grant allocations to multiple public airports throughout North Dakota. The individual awards are noted on the attached listings which show 141 individual projects have received grant awards at 55 different public-use airports throughout the state.

Beginning June 1st, the physical North Dakota Aeronautics Commission office is open for public visitors. Certain staff members may still be teleworking from home in the near future and it is recommended to call prior to coming into the office to ensure that the individual that you would like to meet with is in the office. Please note that visitors may also be subject to COVID-19 screening procedures.

North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports are currently experiencing a dramatic decline in passenger numbers despite posting a 12% year to date growth through the first two months of the year. The airports recently posted the highest passenger numbers on record for the month of February and the overall trend was pointing towards the potential of a record-breaking year in statewide passenger boardings.

On Sunday March 1st, fourteen pilots were presented with awards for participating in the “Fly North Dakota Airports” Passport Program. The passport program presents awards to pilots for flying to airports in the state as well as attending FAA Safety Seminars and visiting the two North Dakota Air Museums.

The Tioga Municipal Airport has received the North Dakota “2019 General Aviation Airport of the Year” award. The award was presented on March 3rd, 2020 at the North Dakota Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium held in Minot. The award is sponsored by the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission in partnership with the Airport Association of North Dakota. This award is for excellence in community awareness, airport management, special events, and beautification projects.

The North Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame committee announces that Allen Sauter has been selected for induction into the state’s Aviation Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place on the evening of March 3rd, at the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium banquet in Minot, ND. Allen Sauter will join the prestigious aviation hall of fame group that currently includes 44 other individuals who have all had a significant impact to the growth, development, and promotion of aviation in North Dakota. North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports finished calendar year 2019 with a statewide total of 1,191,569 passenger boardings. This is a growth of 108,452 passengers or an 10% increase from 2018 numbers. This also results in the second busiest year on record for North Dakota next to 2014, which occurred during the height of the state’s oil boom.
