Air Travel Poised for Strong Holiday Season

Posted 11/21/22 (Mon)

North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports posted a total of 94,620 airline passenger boardings during the month of October, 2022. This is a 9% increase from the 86,948 boardings that the state experienced one year ago in October of 2021.

The demand for air travel in North Dakota has continued its steady recovery throughout 2022 and passenger levels have stabilized to approximately 7% below pre-pandemic numbers. North Dakota’s air service continues to show an elevated level of demand for the seats that are available, and passengers continue to experience airline flights that are at or close to capacity. This strong demand is expected to continue throughout the holiday season and it is recommended that passengers work to secure tickets a few weeks in advance of any planned trips if possible.

“We are expecting a busy upcoming holiday season for air travel and as always, it is highly recommended for passengers to arrive to the airport early to ensure that an adequate amount of time is provided for TSA screening and boarding procedures, “stated Kyle Wanner, Executive Director of the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission. “Additionally, winter weather has also arrived to North Dakota and patience is requested as snow removal and aircraft deicing operations on our airports ensure for a safe operating environment for the traveling public.”
