On Sunday March 4th, Seven pilots were presented with awards for participating in the “Fly North Dakota Airports” Passport Program. The passport program presents awards to pilots for flying to airports in the state as well as attending FAA Safety Seminars and visiting the two North Dakota Air Museums.

Air service activity levels throughout North Dakota remains very healthy as spring break travel is in full swing. North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports posted a total of 88,152 airline passenger boardings during the recent month of February. This is a 9% increase from the 80,552 boardings that the state experienced in the same month in 2022.

Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport in Dickinson, ND has been recognized as North Dakota’s “2022 Commercial Service Airport of the Year.” Airports receive this award for excellence in community outreach, facility management, construction and beautification projects, and participation and hosting of special events. North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports posted a total of 90,979 airline passenger boardings during the recent month of January. This is a 24% increase from the 73,117 boardings that the state experienced in the same month in 2022.

The North Dakota Aviation Hall of Fame committee announces that Rodney Schaaf of Bowman, North Dakota has been selected for induction into the state’s Aviation Hall of Fame. Rodney will join the prestigious aviation hall of fame group that currently includes 47 other individuals who have all had a significant impact to the growth, development, and promotion of aviation in North Dakota. North Dakota’s commercial service airports finished calendar year 2022 with a statewide total of 1,028,159 airline passenger boardings. This is a growth of 141,350 passengers and a 16% overall increase from calendar year 2021. All eight commercial service airports were able to provide services to more passengers in 2022 than they did in the previous calendar year.

North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports posted a total of 83,999 airline passenger boardings during the recent month of November. This is a growth of 570 passengers or a 1% increase from November of last year. It is also 12% below 2019’s pre-pandemic airline boarding counts for the same time period. North Dakota’s cold winter climate makes air travel both attractive and vital for our state’s economy and overall standard of living. Air transportation allows for safe and efficient long-range travel to occur while helping to minimize the time spent on roadways.

The North Dakota Aviation Association (NDAA) has awarded its 2022 scholarships to a group of high school juniors, seniors, and recent GED recipients who plan to pursue advanced education in the field of aviation. NDAA partners with the ND Community Foundation and the aviation community to provide these scholarships to qualifying students. Additionally, NDAA was recognized by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) as this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Excellence by a Local or Regional Group Award.
