Powder River Training Complex MOA - Proposed Changes
The U.S. Air Force has announced a proposal to modify the airspace structure of the Powder River Training Complex (PRTC) Military Operations Area (MOA) in southwest North Dakota. The proposed changes aim to enhance day-to-day military training operations and increase the capacity for Large Force Exercises (LFEs) in support of national defense objectives. To evaluate the potential social, economic, and environmental impacts, the Air Force is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The current public scoping period, which runs through September 9th, is a critical opportunity for the aviation community to help shape the direction of this process. Early input from aviators, airport managers, aviation businesses, and other stakeholders can highlight potential impacts on flight operations, airport activity, and airspace access. This opportunity also allows stakeholders to advocate for alternatives or mitigations that preserve the safety, efficiency, and accessibility of North Dakota’s airspace. Engaging during this phase ensures that the unique operational needs of the public are considered before any final decisions are made.
