TIOGA INSPIRES STUDENTS TO AIM HIGH WITH AWARD WINNING 2ND ANNUAL TIOGA DRONE CAMP FOR KIDS!
Event: “Drone Camp for Kids!” hosted by the Tioga Area Economic Development Corporation
Date: Saturday, August 5th (10:00 AM – 4:30 PM) & Sunday, August 6th (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM)

Overview: Tioga Area Economic Development Corporation (TAEDC) in partnership with title sponsor Enel Green Power North America, Inc. (EGP-NA), operator of the Lindahl Wind Project in Tioga, will host the Second Annual “Drone Camp for Kids!”
If North Dakota can be the "Drone Capital of the World,” then we believe Tioga can be the "Drone Capital for Kids" with the support of local businesses and educators. Innovation has been the cornerstone of the region’s economic and educational activities with the aim of attracting young talent into these growing career fields.
Tioga’s two-day event will provide instruction to 80 middle and high school students on drone use, safety, privacy, competitive flight, and vocational opportunities. Lake Region State College and EGP-NA have agreed to assist with the program curriculum and instruction and Minot Aeroport Hobby Shoppe will conduct a drone obstacle course for students.
After the camp, all students completing the program will take home their own personal practice drones and a 3D printer will be donated to Tioga Public Schools. This was made possible by support from EGP-NA. In addition to the drone camp, for the past year students from Tioga High School have been exposed to drone education in their curriculum with direct access to a professional drone donated by TAEDC and EGP-NA following last year’s camp.
“Tioga Drone Camp for Kids!” was awarded the 2016 Impact Award for Community Development by the Economic Development Association of North Dakota (EDND).

Day 1 – Saturday, August 5th
10:00 A.M. – Kickoff and Presentations
Tentative speakers include:
• North Dakota Lawmakers
• Tioga Mayor Drake McClelland
• TAEDC President Chris Norgaard
• And representatives from Neset Consulting/TAC, Tioga Public School, EGP-NA, North Dakota Job Service, Tech Ranch Fargo, Williston Region EDC, Minot Aeroport Hobby Shoppe, Lake Region State College, AeroDrone, among others.
10:45 AM – EGP-NA UAV Demonstration
EGP-NA drone expert Keith Aubin will perform a drone demonstration for the students.
11:00 AM – Students Classroom Instruction Part I
Curriculum will include an introduction to the Aeronautics Principals of Flight.
12:00 PM - Innovation Competition
Innovators will present their inventions before a panel of expert judges. Northwest Communications Cooperative will provide a cookout for students in the camp.
1:00 PM – Presentation: Technology in Vocational Careers
The "Guru Geek" Marlo Anderson, host of the Tech Ranch out of Fargo, ND, will address students regarding the future of technology in vocational careers.
2:00 PM – Students Classroom Instruction Part II
Lake Region State College will provide instruction. Topics include: Drone Privacy & Safety Issues and Vocational Opportunities
4:00 PM – Personal Drone Flight
Clint Mevis with the Minot Aeroport Hobby Shop will teach students how to fly their drones.
5:00 PM – Dismissal
Students return to their parents.
Day 2 – Sunday, August 6th
1:00 PM – Student Classroom Instruction Part III
Minot Aeroport Lobby Shop will teach a session on competitive flight and drone racing.
4:30 PM – Graduation Ceremony and Awards
Students will receive recognition for their completion of the camp.
4:45 PM – 3D Printer Presentation to Tioga Public Schools
TAEDC and EGP-NA will present the 3D Printer to a representative from Tioga Public Schools.
5:00 PM – Dismissal
End of camp.
